I’ve heard people say “It won’t damage my skin”, and push off the consequences.

Some people say right out that tanning is good for you, and all the “UV = cancer” stuff is bull.

Others live by the moment and aren’t worried about what their skin might look like in the future.

But why do YOU do it?

Oh, I completely agree.

I personally have pale skin and red hair – I’m NOT gonna risk it! I’ve gotten some killer burns in the past, and its no fun.

I rely on spray tans when I want to have a tan.

Sunscreen when I don’t!

lmao. Not that I can actually tan anyway.

BCCs may contain melanin that imparts a brown, black, or blue color through all or part of the lesion. Clinically, the lesion resembles a melanoma or pigmented seborrheic keratosis, but close inspection reveals the characteristically elevated, pearly white, translucent border. A biopsy confirms the diagnosis. The histologic pattern most frequently associated with pigment is the nodular pattern.

SCCs arising from actinic keratoses may have a thick, adherent scale. The tumor is soft and freely movable and may have a red, inflamed base. These lesions are most frequently observed on the bald scalp, forehead and backs of the hands. Cutaneous horns may begin as actinic keratoses and degenerate into SCC. SCCs originating on the lip or from apparently normal skin are aggressive and metastasize to the regional lymph nodes and beyond. Those SCCs beginning in actinically damaged skin, but not from actinic keratoses, appear as firm, movable, elevated masses with a sharply defined border and little surface scale. The potential for SCCs to metastasize is related to the size, location, degree of differentiation, histologic evidence of perineural involvement, immunologic status and depth of invasion. SCCs that arise in actinically damaged skin were previously thought to have a minimal potential for metastasis; however, such lesions may be aggressive. SCC first metastasizes to regional lymph nodes in the majority of cases.

Question by lavender: Has anyone ever experienced “keratoacanthoma”? Skin growth?
The reason I am asking is my boyfriend has it, and has to get it removed by a plasic surgeon. I’m a bit worried about it because some sites on the net refer it to “tumor” or “cancer”. Has anyone ever had to deal with this problem before? If so, can you tell me your experience in some detail? Thanks!
