Question by Irish Pride: Please help anxiety attacks are horrible?
IS this anxiety attack the doctor and my parents tell me it is.
This is what happens. I start “making” myself think there’s something seriously wrong with me like heart attack, brain tumor, etc. and start to focus on the “symptoms” until they get worse (possibly my mind making me feel that way) and then I get a feeling of intense fear and feel my life will end in moments.
These are my symptoms:
Headaches
Tightness in back of skull /top of neck
“Unreal feeling” like I’m watching my life from the outside
Intense fear
Feeling there is something seriously wrong with me
Getting stressed out very very easily
insomnia
depression
Trouble breathing
weird feeling in chest
soreness in joints
dry skin/ dry mouth
disorientation blurry vision
feeling like I’m going to pass out
Even as I write this I’m afraid I’m describing the symptoms of something horrible like cancer and I’m afraid you’re going to tell me it is and then that will scare me even more and I will most likely have another anxiety attack. Help this is horrible. When I have a panic attack I want to go to the hospital and feel like I’m losing myself and I want to fly out of my body or I’ll wake up as a different person. This is so scary help.
Thank you.
PS when I play guitar it calms me down SOOOOOOOO MUCH.

View the techniques for control of anxiety/panic attacks, in section 8, at ezy build, below. Begin, on this first occasion, only, by holding your breath for 5, or 10 seconds: this will give you the confidence to realise that YOU CAN CONTROL YOUR BREATHING, but not pass out, or die (your autonomic nervous system resumes breathing, if you become unconscious). Advice from a clinical psychologist is to breathe in to the count of 3: (one thousand one; one thousand two; one thousand three) each takes around a second to say to yourself, in your mind. Then breathe out to the count of 3. Repeat, until it begins to take effect. Understand panic attacks, and what triggers them, in your life (if it is unresolved anxiety, or stress, see sections 6, [page N first - main anxiety post] or 42, [page i first] respectively).
The paper bag method also works for most people, but is not suited to all circumstances, such as driving, or playing sport. Another alternative is psychotherapy, to address its fundamental cause, which is usually anxiety; read section 1, and examine the http://1-800-therapist.com/ & http://www.metanoia.org/choose/ websites, and use the locators to find a therapist, (and phone book, but only if necessary). I used to suffer from panic attacks, until I questioned what had changed in my life, at, or just before that time, to trigger them, which is enough for some people. Visualise as vividly as possible, a large, red, flashing, “STOP!” sign, and/or possibly a stern faced person wagging an index finger at you in a negative manner, then say to yourself as forcefully as you can, even aloud in a big voice, if alone: “I know this tactic: GO AWAY FOR A WHILE !!!” You may want to us either: “ruse”, “ploy”, “game”, or “trick”, instead of “tactic”. It usually takes 30 – 40 repetitions, for most people, to establish a new habit. I also suggest that you learn, then practise the controlled breathing technique, until competent, then employ it, at the very first sign of a panic attack.
Practice one of the relaxation methods in sections 11, 2, 2c, or 2i, daily, and when needed. Also, give the EFT a good tryout, to see if it helps you. There is also a version for use in public places, (if you like, you can claim to have a headache, as you massage/lightly tap your temples, but you would then be restricted to subvocalising – saying it to yourself in your mind). Sections 53, and 2, 2.q and 2.o at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris also refer: “Even though I sometimes suffer from panic attacks, I deeply and completely accept myself.” Note: the controlled breathing only helps with the symptoms (as do medications/herbal remedies): you need to address the underlying cause, which requires some form of therapy, and Cognitive Behavio(u)ral Therapy has been shown to be effective. Imagine that the cause of your panic; your anxieties, fears, your self doubts, self recriminations, all the agonizing “I’m-so-Stupids”; every painful “I-can’t-do-it” are huge raging, hurtful bulls snorting and charging at you. You see them coming at you and you hold out your red matador’s cape at arms length and simply let them charge right by.
I too suffered like this for years. I discovered that I have Celiacs Disease which is not as bad as it sounds. It means that I am allergic to gluten in wheat, barley and Rye. The symptoms are very similar to an anxiety disorder. I suggest you try to eat gluten free for 3 days and see how you feel.
See? Playing the guitar takes your mind off of the obsession that you are sick. Keep that up! Try Tapping.com and follow along with the videos, that can be very calming.
Re: Celiac Disease (and I think most of us would do well to have a gluten free diet) but wanted to post that a vaccine is slated for trials in 2009. Those interested:http://www.celiac.com/categories/Celiac-Disease-Diagnosis%2C-Testing-%26amp%3B-Treatment-%28Gluten%252dFree-Diet%29/
I know what you’re going through. I’ve been diagnosed with anxiety/depression for 5 years. I just got the guts to get off all medicine and try to get better on my own, and lately I find myself getting mini panic attacks, but since I know what they are I try to fight them. You have to figure out the root of your anxiety to help make it better. It usually comes from a trauma in your life, or extreme stress. Mine was caused by my father getting cancer. To relieve anxiety, I make myself think another direction, or watch something on tv that will take my mind off, or the best thing i do is read a book. It clears my mind of my troubles and lets me imagine something else. You have to be strong and fight it, it’s a battle, believe me, i’ve gone through a lot of diff tests to see what’s wrong with me, and all came out negative. It’s all mental. You’re mind is a very strong instrument, that you have the power to control. Finding the power is a diff story. Try exercising, it releases endorphins to the brain that helps relieve anxiety.
Please get your thyroid function checked.
You are gonna totally discount the next part, try relaxation methods, breathing etc, if you want to know more I will e-mail you with some easy steps, it really helped me. I do know where you are.
I got out of the vicious cycle of ” I am feeling panicky” I have to get out of here etc.
I was referred to an Indian doctor who taught me relaxation exercises.
I have never felt better, I still get the feelings of panic but they are getting less and less frequent.I deal with them for what they are, a natural reaction to the situations you find yourself in.
Good luck, there is a result without drugs.
hey,…you’re only making this up in your head…the brain is a very powerful system……don’t worry too much about these things as long as you’re still alive and can still walk, breathe, see, hear…enjoy everything life has to offer while you still exsist……..-_-
