Age Spots Cause
Question by Adam Adams: Questions about hair thinning. (Age 22)?
I went to see my doctor, which took a couple of months to get an appointment. I mentioned the hair on the top of my head was thinning, and he said I should take Rogaine twice a week. He didn’t even look at my head. I wish I asked more questions, but I have social anxiety, and my mind was just clouded.
Should I have him refer me to a dermatologist, or is it not that hard to diagnose? Is it possible to tell if my thinning is hereditary, or from my lifestyle? I’m very depressed over this, but please don’t tell me to shave my head, as I don’t have a very round or masculine face, so I would look even worse if I did that. I have always been depressed, I’m hoping this could be the cause?
Here are some questions:
1. What are the chances my hair is thinning do to stress? My brother has a lot of stress, and he has a bit of a bald spot on his crown, and a bit of a receding hairline. His is a little worse than mine, and he is almost 24. My father’s side doesn’t have any history of baldness, and my mothers side doesn’t have much. She only said he uncle went bald, but anyone else in her family just went bald at an old age like most people.
2. I’ve read Rogaine can cause your hair to fall out. Do the hairs that fall out due to Rogaine grow up if you stop taking it? I know the hairs fall out once you stop taking Rogaine, but which hairs fall out after that? Is it *only* new hairs that grew due to Rogaine’s presence? I don’t want to take Rogaine, only to find out it makes things worse. I also read the hair that grows back is fuzzy and thin?
3. Can Propecia cause permanent impotence? I know it can cause birth defects, but my doctor said once you want to have a kid, you just stop taking it for a couple months.
Note: I’m always picking and combing the top of my head. I know this definitely makes it worse, but I don’t know to what extent.
I have never felt this desperate. Thank you.
Also, my hairs are different lengths; what does that mean? Some of the hairs are tiny little baby hairs.

It is completely normal to loss hair every single day. In fact 10% of the time our hair is in a resting phase. The other 90% of the time it is in the growth phase. At any rate our hair is in a constant state of growing and falling out. The hairs that fall out are quickly replaced by new hair. Only when this process is out of whack do we notice significant hair thinning. Hair loss can be attributed to several factors: including childbirth, menopause, chemotherapy, alopecia, hormone imbalance, heredity, radiation therapy and aging.
The good news is there are many hair thinning remedies that can be implemented with success. Not only can you stop hair from falling but you can re-grow hair as well. A few of the natural hair thinning remedies include:
1. Vitamins A, B, C and E are good hair growth promoters. The best way to get them is naturally through the foods you eat. There are several ways these vitamins work to promote hair growth. They provide sebum and promote blood circulation to the scalp by increasing oxygen absorption and collagen.
2. Proper Scalp Management: It is good to massage your scalp regularly with herbal oils. Use products like olive oil, jojoba oil, amla oil. There are reports that alopecia areata can be effectively treated with essential oils of thyme, rosemary, lavender and cedar wood.
3. Limit Scalp Abuse: You need to avoid blow drying and using chemical shampoos daily. Your hair and scalp can be damaged by harsh chemical processes such as coloring or straightening. Even daily hair washing with hot water can damage the hair. The hair can turn brittle and natural oils dry up.
4. Use of herbal care products: To increase your effectiveness utilize herbal powders of amla, shikakai, henna and ritha as shampoo and conditioner. Amla powder is a very powerful anti-oxidant which can prevent graying and hair loss. Shikakai has a low pH. This makes it a great shampoo which thoroughly cleans the hair without depleting it of its natural oils. Henna can be used as a natural conditioner.
5. Reduce Stress: Stress can cause thinning of the hair. You can reduce stress by doing exercises and meditation.
6. Stop Smoking: Smoking causes constriction of the blood vessels which supply blood to the scalp. This is just one of many of the benefits you get from eliminating smoking.
7. FDA approved Hair Thinning Remedies: There are lots of hair loss products out there that claim to work. The recommendation is to find hair loss products that have been reviewed by the FDA.

When people seek a doctor (like yours, he already knew what causes your hair thinning), gave your a prescription and sent you out the door so he can move on to his next patients. Easy way out! Instead of ‘take 2 aspirin and call me in the morning’, he told you to take Rogaine. That’s what you’re paying him for. Doctors!!!!! They don’t know everything! A lot of people go through stress everyday w/out losing their hair.
So many reasons why you have hair loss:
Supplements, steroids, hereditary, hair dyes perming, straightening, medications with testosterone, certain antidepressants, menopause, anti-acne, and too much of everything. Add to that the 7,000 + toxics found in your home, plus pollution found outdoors. Your body is crying for help!
They also say you normally lose 100-200 hair a day, but I don’t. I lose about 7-8 every time I brush it, so that’s about 100 per week, give or take.
The majority of hair problems here are from girls in their 30s, asking how to care for their damaged hair, what product to make their hair grow, why their hair falls out, and why their shampoo or conditioner don’t work. Women between 60-80 have that same problem, but it took them years to get there. And those same 30 & under girls are giving advice here? Go figure!
Even the cheapest shampoo can do magic for your hair, so it must be what you’re doing AFTER you wash it. Shampoos and vitamins might make your hair look and feel healthier, but they won’t put more hairs on your head.
According Dr. Melissa Piliang, a dermatologist at the Cleveland Clinic. Americans spent an estimated $ 176 million on hair loss products last year, and chances are some of that money was not well spent. Don’t let charming salon owners, seductive ads or fancy gimmicks convince you otherwise.
I hope you recognized why you’re hair is thinning.

Having a family history of hair loss, I’ve looked into all the options for thinning hair. If you have thinning hair on the top or front of your head like you said before, your best bet for regrowing anything is Propecia. Rogaine seems to only have any real success for regrowing hair in the back of your head as in your brother’s case. Rogaine does run the slight risk of losing your hair at first, but its nothing substantial. The active ingredient in Rogaine takes awhile before you begin to see regular full shafts of hair come in. So at first you would see your hair grow in thin and fuzzy but over time as long as you keep using it, it would grow back. But as I warned before the only real success seems to be for the back of your head around the crown. Propecia has a much stronger active ingredient which I’ve heard can lower your sperm count, but I haven’t heard anything about permanent impotence. This is the only drug I’ve heard of where users report having regrown hair in the front or top of their head. The only problem with the drug is over a long period of time the active ingredient’s effectiveness begins to wear off, and the hair you might have grown back will eventually fall out again. Unfortunately it seems the only permanent solution is hair transplantation, which is much more costly and hard to find a doctor who’s good at it.
This stuff my brother uses works because he was losing his hair to the point he would wear hats every where he went. (it didnt help his girlfriend left him for a guy with hair like chia pet)
But he started like 2 yrs ago and alot of his hair is back and looks normal. Here is a site that has the stuff..hope this helps.
