Age Spots Cause

Question by Patriot2008: Question about the sun and sunspots..?
Recently, astronomers discovered a star that is rotating much faster than the sun. Now, imagine that these same astronomers discover a G2 star similar to the sun except that it showed very little rotation. Presuming that this slowly rotating star is the same age as the sun, the astronomers might also expect to observe which one of the following?

A sunspot cycle of less than 11 years.
A sunspot cycle equal to 11 years.
A sunspot cycle of greater than 11 years.

I think it would be greater than because the slower speed would cause the magnetic field to wrap slower and effectively break slower, causing less sun spots less frequently. Any other opinons?

Thanks!

i beleive sunspots are overheated spots on the sun and burn parts of what little land there is on the sun ^_^

  1. Beau Garrett says:

Yes, ‘greater.’ Sunspots result from a star’s magnetic field becoming tangled and distorted due to the different regions of the star rotating at different speeds. The slower the star, the less would be the distortion.
