Question by Brit: question about colon cancer?
my boyfriends best friend is a 24 yr old male. 2 yrs ago, he was about to be shipped to iraq with the marines when they found colon cancer in his screening. they started chemo but it was so hard on his body that he didnt finish his last 5-6 treatments but didnt tell anyone. in july he started feeling really sick again but didnt visit the hospital til october. hes now been in a VA hospital for 3 weeks. they opened his abdomen and found that this cancer started in the spot where they removed the last cancer. its now in his muscles, liver and theres too much for radiation. they would like to start chemo when he becomes a little healthier. they gave him less than a yr. now they say less than 6 months. now im hearing maybe past christmas. hes really sick right now and has yellowish skin tone because of it. he cannot eat solids either. my question is, has anyone experienced this and what was the timeline of life your loved one had once they were diagnosed? my bf is devastated and i want to be optimistic for him but i think george is dying and i feel so terrible.

From your description – your instincts that he is dying would seem to be correct. Colon carcinoma in someone this young is usually very aggressive. Various available chemotherapy drugs / combinations will not pull someone back from the brink of death in this disease – when there is already evidence of liver failure – - IF your information is correct. You cannot safely radiate the liver for colon cancer metastases. Best to prepare for the worst.
