Liver Spots Treatment

Question by hnybzthms: Mum’s having a ct scan for cancer?
Hi my mum had kidney cancer in 2007 and had her right kidney removed Jan 08 and was told it was a stage 3 cancer, she had no further treatment as kidney cancer doesn’t respond to chemo and the new drugs available now weren’t in 2007/08, in March 09 they found a spot on her liver and they have told her that the cancer has spread there, and she is now under the oncologist.

My question is in March 09 she only had one spot on her liver 1.5cm on the left lob, so it is just over 3 months since her last scan, and she is going to be having an up to date ct scan in the next couple of wks.

Does cancer alter much in 3 months? She has had NO treatment in that time, and what are the chances it wouldn’t of changed at all in that time?
My mum has seen surgeon regarding having part of liver removed, but is not having this done, they are going to try Radio frequency ablition

I believe that liver cancer is slow growing and they can remove part of the liver and you can still survive. Good luck and God bless

    GOD bless u mom!!!

Without treatment, a cancerous tumor will continue to grow and possibly spread to other parts of the body. The rate of growth varies tremendously from case to case, so it is impossible to predict what your Mom’s upcoming scan will reveal.

If your Mom wishes to pursue treatment, then she should do so promptly. Your statement that no treatment was undertaken during the last 3 months is somewhat troubling. The more opportunity the cancer has to grow and spread, the tougher it is to treat.
