Question by Nana to TWO: Best birth control for 14-yr-old daughter?
I know she’s way too young to be having sex, but she is, and I need to put her on what would be best for her age and cause the least amount of spotting. Pill? Shot? other?
Of course I’m taking her to the doctor….not only is it the proper thing to have an exam, but I don’t think I can write a script for her myself or give her a shot!
Of course I’ve talked to my kids about morals and saving themselves, and all that jazz.
Even their older siblings have talked to them.
Dippy….I’m not “allowing” this to happen. If you can find a way for me to be with my kids 24/7 please let me know because I’d love to be able to do that.

I’m 14 and my mother has me on Ortho Tri-Cyclen. I don’t have sex but I think it works just fine. I’ve had this pill since summer of last year and I’ve had no spotting.
That’s what your ob/gyn is for. Why are you asking Y!A? Go ask your gynecologist.
Dont do the shot if she is worried about spotting. it lasts for four months, and its very good for young girls who might forget to take the pill every day, but some women dont bleed at all, some have regular periods, and some bleed throughout the entire thing.
as for pills, most women starting them will have irregular periods, and spotting for a few months, some dont, but if they do , thiers no way around it.
stay away from nuva ring, it can get fall out, and young girls tend to forget to put them back in after.
the pill could be good if she puts an alarm on her phone the same time every day to remind her to take it, and she should always keep the pills with her. taking it the same time every day makes them the most effective. maybe every morning after she brushes her teeth.
make sure she has plenty of condoms as well. birth control pills, patches, shots, and rings dont prevent HIV and other stds.
i guaruntee, if there are no condoms and things start getting hot and heavy, lack of condoms wont stop fertile raging teenage hormones.

Orthy Tri sprintec. I take it my friend take it. my sis who is a doctor take it and my cousin take it. If is fine. not the shot. You gain alot of weight then lose then gain and so on. I have been taking it since her age but anyway. As far as my period it regulated me. i have about a 4 day period. Watch what pill you get cause they have so many effects DEFINITELY DON’T GET YAZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How about Parents that care about her enough to teach her morals and to give her discipline. Letting her continue to have sex is very detrimental to her long term health as well as her self esteem and mental health.
As for birth control, abstinence works every time! And the side effects are all good!
Well, as a mother, you know that only a doctor can answer that question when it comes to your daughter. Because she is already sexually active, then you already know that she should be checked for std’s, sti’s and a pregnancy test. Also, if spotting is the only side effect that you’re worried about, then you, yourself need to do more research on birth control. My birth control options were restricted due to my family history. Does she also smoke or do drugs? Those are also factors that need to be considered.
Even though you are trying to do the right thing, in certain states, you may open yourself up to child neglect charges for allowing this to happen. After all, she is still a minor.
Probably Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo or another of the lesser hormone dosing options.
