Scar from a 1mm melanoma
Melanoma

This is one of my most visible scars 2 years on however the tumor which lived here is nothing compared with the 6mm which lived in my leg, because it was only 1mm the outlook is good, but the 6mm one drags things down, quite a fair bit actually it was to deep to be considered for clinical trials at the time.

I have 7 scars in total, just wish the reasons for having them were cool. Sunprotection will not cure skin cancer, being alert and getting a mole out without delay, will.

What is good to get rid of sun damaged skin?

Liver Spots Causes

Question by Jim: What is good to get rid of sun damaged skin?
Is there anything I can use, such as cream or oil, to remove little brown spots caused by over exposure to the sun? I have heard them referred to as sun spots, liver spots, sun freckles, and age spots. I am not sure what the medical term for them is, but they are caused by damage to the skin from ultraviolet rays. A friend of mine said she went to a doctor that said this is a condition known as hyperpigmentation (not really sure if that is the right name) and the only way to remove them is through laser treatments. I’d like to know if anyone here is aware of this problem and has found anything that works without a medical treatments.

Dr. Jennifer Ashton discussed a study that found that non-melanoma skin cancer is increasing at an alarming rate.

Question by LoVin Lif3 ♥: BIOLIOGY QUESTION!?!?!?
Scientists have long recognized that rates of melanoma are higher in areas that are closer to the equator or receive more sunlight, and that ultraviolet-B rays are the primary cause of sunburn and skin cancer. In this study, the authors developed a novel approach to measure an individual’s sun exposure over a lifetime, taking into account where an individual has lived throughout his or her life. This information determines average annual UVB intensity – the average amount of ultraviolet-B rays that a person could be exposed to per year over his or her lifetime. The data led the researchers to conclude that a 10 percent increase in the average annual intensity was associated with a 19 percent increase in the individual’s risk for melanoma in men and a 16 percent increase in women, at any age.

“We’re learning more about the kinds of exposures that cause melanoma,” said Thomas Fears, Ph.D., the first author of the paper and a scientist at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md. “The risk of melanoma is greatest for people who develop little or no tan. However, we’ve learned that where people live as both kids and adults and how much UVB shines in those places are important factors – regardless of tanning ability.”

1. Which of the following are believed to be the primary cause of melanoma?

A. ultraviolet-A rays
B. ultraviolet-B rays
C. ultraviolet-C rays
D. gamma rays

2. According to the study, which group of people are at greatest risk for developing melanoma?

A. Men over 50
B. Women over 50
C. People who can tan easily
D. People who do not tan easily

Q&A: How long do think even with treatment?

Liver Spots Treatment

Question by hnybzthms: How long do think even with treatment?
Hi my mum had kidney cancer and as a result had her right kidney removed in Jan 08, she had no further treatment and was given the all clear, in Nov 08 she had a ct scan which was clear, she had another one in March this year and it showed a spot on the centre of her liver.

She has had an MRI can and had it confirmed on Friday that it is cancer which must of spread from the kidney. The spot is 15mm and we have been told its incurable, they are going to offer treatment to help prolong things. What i want to know does anyone with this type of cancer and with where it is are we looking at a long time left or is this likely to progress quickly. My mum is well at the moment with no symptoms. And i’d rather have some idea the longest we’re looking at as my Dad from cancer 4 yrs ago which did go quick.

Many thanks

Patients in your mother’s situation usually die within 2 years if untreated. With treatment the 5-year survival rate is 16%. How well she does will depend on how well she responds to treatment. I’m very sorry.

Sun/liver spot removal?

Liver Spots Causes

Liver Spots Causes
by bossco

Question by staygold: Sun/liver spot removal?
I am 28 yrs old and have fair skin. I have never been one for tanning in my younger years & have never gotten sunburned. Everyday I use SPF 15, I wear a hat when going out & in general I avoid the sun like the plague. At a very young age I have been anti-age obsessed, unline the other girls my age who would tan. So you can imagine my shock when on my left cheek I developed a SUN SPOT! First, I can’t imagine how since as I said I take so many precautions. And 2nd, I want to get rid of it. I went to a dermatologist who confirmed it was a sun spot. She put me on Tretioin 0.25% cream. However, creams like Retin-A, hyrdroquinone tend to scare me.For one, I really don’t want chemicals on my face. Hydroquinone has cancer causing properties and is banned for use in Eurpoe. And Retin-A may actually WORSEN hyperpigmentation on spots and can reoccur once you stop using it.
What I am looking for is a NATURAL way that is effective in PERMANENTLY erasing this spot!!!!!!!!!

Answer by mombolita
try applying lemon juice to the spot, avoiding the eye area since that would sting. Esoterica cream, a long-marketed product available I believe at Wal-Mart, is also a possibility.

Is iris melonoma the only cause for freckles developing in a feline’s eye iris?

Age Spots Cause

Question by Cari D: Is iris melonoma the only cause for freckles developing in a feline’s eye iris?
My 12 year old cat is still pretty frisky for her age; however, 3 months ago her right eye started to change in color. (She has a black coat, with yellow eyes) Recently, the right eye “iris” has developed brown spots/freckles and it seems to look worse each day passing. Is this definitely a cancerous melanoma or could it be something that an anti-biotic may cure? It appeared very sudden. I am very worried. What else can cause these symptoms?
