Age Spots Cause
Question by : 2009 Taxes: Do I have to claim childs small amount of social security income from her dads age?
Oops! My infant daughter gets a small check each month from social security. Her father is over 65 and collects social security retirement, so she collects a small amount due to him.
I submitted my taxes last night and never thought about that until today!!! Is this going to cause an issue? Or did I not even need to claim that? I can’t find the information online, and don’t remember seeing a spot for it. There was one question about whether the child was employed for income…I’m assuming that might have been where I should have put it in?
The check is about $ 300/month. It is the only support that I get for her.

Answer by the tax lady
The SSA checks were in her name and would never go on your tax return. Since she has no other income, it’s not taxable to her anyway.
How large is the check? It counts as support the child provided to herself. In some cases it’s enough to not let a parent claim the dependency.

it is not income to you, it is for the support of the child and I believe you will find the statement is in the SS# of the child, not yours
and if and when she does have income and needs to file her own taxes, she receives this SS money until she is 18
